WASHINGTON — Road paving in Washington

The Indiana Department of Transportation is advising motorists to be aware of temporary lane restrictions on Bus. 50 in Washington.  Beginning on or after Monday, May 20, crews will be spot paving throughout the city. Work will be accomplished one lane at a time and utilize flag persons to control traffic through the work zones. Work activities are scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day with all paving operations anticipated to be complete by May 24. Inclement weather will cancel the work operation for the day.

Civil War round table Monday

The Vicksburg Campaign will be the topic at the monthly meeting of the Civil War Roundtable Monday.

Dan Gress will present the 6:30 p.m. program at the Daviess County Museum, 212 E. Main St. The program is open to the public and no admission is charged.

1968 WHS reunion planned

Washington High School Class of 1968 is planning a casual reunion to be held at 7 p.m. June 22 at Mulligan’s. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be provided.

Compassionate Friends to meet

The Compassionate Friends of Washington is having an event Sunday at the Washington Eastside Park, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with a pitch-in dinner for the families (bring a covered dish), followed by an inspiring program by nationally known personality Alan Peterson.

Following the program there will be a balloon launch between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Elnora to apply for grants

The town of Elnora will apply for owner occupied housing rehabilitation funds from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

The grant, if awarded, will provide rehabilitation on houses owned by low and moderate income persons living within the corporate limits of Elnora.

The projects will assist the elderly (55 and older) and/or disabled homeowners and also families with children. You must own the house, be living in the house, contract sales are not eligible, life estates are not eligible, and single wide trailers are not eligible. The housing unit must be covered by homeowner’s insurance and property taxes must be current.

Assistance is based upon household size and income. Contact the Southern Indiana Development Commission at 295-3707 for the income limits.

Applications to qualify for assistance will be taken on the following dates and locations: May 20, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and May 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elnora Town Hall, 105 W. Main St.

The following information will be required for a complete application: copy of recorded deed, proof of property insurance, 2012 state and federal tax returns and proof of social security and/or SSI income (if applicable).

Donations being accepted for High Rock

Anyone who has loved ones buried at High Rock (Mt. Zion) Cemetery in Reeve Township who would like to make a charitable donation may do so by contacting Terri Abel at 486-3724. Checks may be made out to High Rock Mt. Zion Cemetery and mailed to 1247N 650E, Montgomery, IN 47558.
