---- — The North Daviess School Board met Monday evening and approved the retirement of elementary guidance counselor Susan Fiscus.

Fiscus, who has been at North Daviess for 26 years, will retire at the end of the school year.

Superintendent Robert Bell also announced that the corporation received a $50,000 matching grant from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

“The grant will be used at the elementary and the junior/senior high for security cameras, panic buttons, and keyless entry on the outside doors of the buildings,” said Bell.

Bell said that potential projects for next school year include an entry door replacement, water coolers, and replacing the large windows on the west wall of the pool.

Members of the board also complimented junior/senior high principal Jed Jerrels on the Veteran’s Day Program put on by the school. “The program was awesome,” said Rob Dove. “Listening to the elementary kids sing just really gets to me.”

Jerrels said that more than 600 photos of veterans were a part of the program.

“Programs like that make us proud to be a part of this school,” said board member Darin Holder.

The next school board meeting will be Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
