Fire damages home on W. Main Street

---- — A fire caused major damage to a house on West Main Street Friday morning.

At 2:43 a.m., according to a release from the Washington Fire Department, firefighters were called to 901 W. Main St. as a caller found smoke in the house.

Firefighters found a fire in the kitchen area that continued into the roof area. Off-duty firefighters were called to the scene and the fire was extinguished by 6:51 a.m.

Fire Chief Dave Rhoads said there was major damage to the home, owned by Terry Cox. The occupant of the home as John Coy. There was no insurance for the home, the release said.
