10:36 a.m. — Rodney Helderman advised he was making a delivery to Campton’s store and his truck hit a line, pulling it down. An officer advised it was a phone line.
10:32 a.m. — An employee of IGA, 900 W. Nat’l Hwy., reported the theft of a Natural Light beer 12-pack by a male wearing a red and black Cincinnati Reds jacket and a baseball cap. The employee attempted to stop the male, who got into a silver or gray Isuzu pickup. The incident was captured on video, and the subject was identified as Robert Baker. He’ll be long-formed for theft.
1:51 a.m. — A male caller reported leaves on fire at N.W. 16th Street between North Street and Maxwell Avenue. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire.
10:30 p.m. — A female caller reported a large leaf fire by Campton’s store at N.W. 14th and Jackson streets. The fire department responded and was on the scene until 10:57 p.m.
9:05 p.m. — Tammy George, 1006 N.E. Fourth St., reported coming home from walking her dog and finding her dining room screen door laying propped on plants inside the house. A brick from beside the house was moved, also. She said her lortabs had been taken and replaced with over-the-counter Tylenol.
3:57 p.m. — Debbie Culver advised a small, chrome boys bike had been in her front yard at 1104 W. VanTrees St. for about a week. It was placed in the police bike room.
7:47 p.m. — Jesse A. Riker, 19, 1805 McCormick Ave., was westbound on Walnut Street approaching a stop sign before curving onto 21st Street. Riker said he applied the brakes of his 1998 Volkswagen Beetle and felt the front wheels lock up before he struck a retaining wall. Only one skid mark was found, extending about 25 feet, from the front passenger tire. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
9:34 p.m. — Kevin White, 3484 W. Nat’l Hwy., Lot 8, reported the theft of a black and silver TaoTao moped.
3:30 p.m. — A male caller reported items were stolen from his truck at 1365N 300W.
10:06 a.m. — Jeffrey A. Kempfer, 47, Monroe City, was driving a 1996 Peterbilt truck with dump bed registered to Robinson Sons LLC west on SR 58 near CR 1250E when a black pickup pulled onto the highway. Kempfer said he braked and began downshifting to slow the truck, but it began to skid. Kempfer lost control and the truck went off the north side of the road into a ditch, overturning onto the driver’s side and losing its load of gravel on the highway. Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
8 p.m. — Piedad Ayala, 24, 1227 Greenbriar Dr., was westbound on CR 150N in her Toyota Matrix when a deer ran into her path near CR 375W. She swerved to avoid the animal, went off the north side of the road, down over a culvert and onto a creek bed. The vehicle, which came to rest on the driver’s side, did not go into the water. Ayala was treated and signed a release at the scene. Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
9:27 a.m. — Lori J. West, 50, 1875 S. SR 257, was in her 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind Kevin D. Cox, 43, 3098E 450S, who was in a 2005 Nissan Altima northbound on SR 257. There were other vehicles in front of Cox, and a flagman had stopped them so construction equipment could cross the highway.
West stated she didn’t realize traffic had stopped, and when she noticed she oversteered to the left. Her vehicle crossed the center line and struck a concrete bridge rail, continued back across SR 257 and struck the Cox vehicle in the driver’s side door. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
