MONTGOMERY — Barr-Reeve High School will hold its 48th commencement exercises on May 25, in the high school gymnasium at 2 p.m. Again this year, the graduation will be an afternoon affair.

Forty-one graduates will march to the processional call of “Pomp and Circumstance” as played by the Barr-Reeve High School Band under the direction of  Stephanie O’Brian.

The audience will be led in the “Pledge of Allegiance” by Class Treasurer Cori Cummings and Class Secretary Myron Stoll, followed by the Barr-Reeve High School Chorus performing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Opening remarks will be given by Class President Tanisha Graber and Class Vice President Collin Swartzentruber. Special music selections during the Commencement Exercises will include “Defying Gravity” performed by the band spotlighting senior band members, “Find Your Wings” performed by senior chorus members and “Never Alone” performed by the high school chorus under the direction of Joyce Hawkins.

The salutatory address will be given by Damon Pruett, and the valedictory address is to be given by Janet Wagler, Jacob Bledsoe, and Brandon Wagler.

The presentation of special awards will be made by High School Principal Jeff Doyle followed by the presentation of diplomas by Travis Madison, Barr-Reeve superintendent, and school board members, Galen Graber, Joe Cummings and Scott Lottes. A slideshow spotlighting the class of 2013 and candlelight ceremony will conclude the commencement ceremonies.

The Barr-Reeve Senior Class of 2013 has chosen the Bleeding Heart as the class flower. Class colors are red, white, and black. The class will graduate under the motto “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” Class sponsors are Tim Hawkins, Stephanie O’Brian and Dr. Nancy Harrison.

Class officers include Tanisha Graber, president; Collin Swartzentruber, vice president; Myron Stoll, secretary; Cori Cummings, treasurer; and Kayla Wagler and Jacob Bledsoe, Senior Student Council representatives.

Candidates for graduation this Saturday afternoon are: Jacob Ryan Bledsoe, Alexis Nichole Chestnut, Brittany Nicole Craney, Cori Laine Cummings, Tyler Jason Davis, Molleigh Jamison Doyle, Zachary  Ryan Edwards, Dylan Christopher Eisenhut, Amanda Leeann Ferguson, Lynnette Marie Gerkin, Aaron Hugh Graber, Andrea Rochelle Graber, Heath Michael Graber, Tanisha Mai Graber, Alexandra Leigh Harker, Danielle Lynne Hopkins, Ciara Jo Hornaday, Jessica Marie Kavanaugh, Tyler Benjamin Kelly.

Class of 2013 Valedictorian(s): Janet Wagler - Janet is the daughter of Darrell and Christina Wagler of Montgomery. Janet was an active member of Beta Club for three years, and she served as vice president her junior year.

She was a member of Art Club all four years and served as vice president her junior year. She also was a member of SADD Club. Janet received the Valedictorian Scholarship from Vincennes University. She plans to attend Vincennes University and major in nursing.

Jacob Bledsoe - Jacob is the son of Mark and Jennifer Bledsoe of Cannelburg.

Jacob is the Senior Class Boys Student Council Representative and served as secretary his junior year. Jacob has participated in basketball, BETA Club, Art Club, VIP Club, Renaissance and Student Council throughout high school.

He was named Academic All-State Honorable Mention in basketball, received the Mental Attitude Award, Most Improved Award, FCA Character Counts Award, and was team co-captain in basketball. He was also a recipient of the Tony Murphy Academic Athlete Award. Jacob was awarded the IUPUI Dean of the Faculties Scholarship as well as the Valedictorian Scholarship. He plans to attend IUPUI and major in occupational therapy.

Brandon Wagler - Brandon is the son of Randy and Marla Wagler of Loogootee.

Throughout high school, he participated in BETA Club, Art Club, VIP Club, basketball and baseball. He was named Basketball Academic All-State Honorable Mention, All-Conference Honorable Mention, Most Improved, and was team co-captain his senior year. Brandon was named Baseball All-Area/All Blue Chip Conference his junior year. He also received the Tony Murphy Academic Athlete Award. He plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana where he plans to major in Accounting.

Class of 2013 Salutatorian: Damon Pruett  - Damon is the son of Mike and Maria Pruett of Montgomery.

Throughout high school, Damon has been a member of Student Council, Beta Club, VIP Club, cross-country and track.  Damon has been a state finalist in cross-country both his junior and senior years. He was named a member of the A-2A 1st Team All-State in cross-country both his junior and senior years. He finished runner-up in the 2012 IHSAA Sectional, Regional, and Conference Cross-Country meets. He was named the Co-Most Valuable Runner his senior year and was Co-Captain his junior and senior years. He also received the 2013 All-Sports Mental Attitude Award. Damon received the Salutatorian Scholarship from IUPUI along with a cross-country scholarship.  He plans to attend IUPUI and major in actuarial science.
