Hill to speak at Four Rivers meeting

---- — John Hill, Director of Policy, Planning and Program Development with the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration/Division of Disability and Rehabilitation Services, will be speaking at 6 p.m.Tuesday during the Four Rivers support group meeting in Linton.

Four Rivers, a program started over 50 years ago, works to help persons with special needs and their families. Four Rivers provides one or more services in 14 counties across southwest Indiana. Services provided by Four Rivers include supported living, group homes, job placement and supported employment, work services, adult day services, preschool, healthy families, public transportation, affordable housing, and information and referral.

The program has started the support group as a way to help others find out about the resources available to individuals with disabilities. The group is open to the public including families, guardians and other individuals.

“We really want to reach out to the community and let them know they are not alone in their journey to find information and answers. We’re here to help,” stated Steve Sacksteder, Four Rivers’ Executive Director.

The support groups purpose is to educate the community about the available options and how to access them. The group also informs current service recipients’ families and guardians about local and state happenings and works to offer advocacy on the behalf of people with disabilities.

Hill has nearly four decades of experience working with and on behalf of individuals with disabilities. He worked for the Indiana Department of Education- Special Education for almost 13 years where his duties included working with local public schools on issues regarding racial/ethnic disproportionality and Medicaid reimbursement for both Medicaid Administrative Claiming and medically related Individualized Education Plan services. Hill also served two years as the person of the Indiana Commission on Rehabilitation Services and also served on the Indiana Governor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the Indiana School for the Deaf School Board, Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired School Board, the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Service Advisory Board, and Covering Kids and Families Board/Schools Committee Co-Chair.

Hill is also a founding member and past President of the National Alliance for Medicaid in Education (NAME) and serves as the chairperson of the NAME Governmental Affairs and Public Relations committee.
