---- — Members of the Washington City Council voted in favor of an amendment that would raise the bond limit for Phase I of the city’s water system upgrades.
Phase I includes a new water tower and upgrades that will increase the water pressure. The new water tower will be placed in the newly annexed industrial park and water mains will be replaced in both the newly annexed areas along I-69 and along Van Trees Street.
The upgrades will also allow the city to clean the main water supply line without having to shut off the supply to the city. Council members needed to raise the bond limit because bids for three of the five segments came in $500,000 over the estimated costs.
Due to time constraints, Mayor Joe Wellman said a special session had to be held because delays could put the progress behind and the city could possibly have to get an extension from the companies who bid on the projects.
