Over 60 children involved in the Daviess County YMCA summer camp and Washington Catholic Cardinal Care participated in a disability awareness program Monday sponsored by Generations. This was the fourth year for the program, put on by Generations, that helps children gain a better understanding of what it is like to have a a disability such as blindness, arthritis, paralysis, or dyslexia.
AngelWorx coordinators and volunteers helped the children work through stations that focused on learning about disabilities. At one station, students had to attempt to maneuver around obstacles with a walker. The students also learned about first impressions and how those first impressions can often be wrong, during a session called “Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover.”
AngelWorx, a volunteer program sponsored by Generations, allows volunteers of all ages to participate individually or as a group. For more information about AngelWorx, contact Kim Fields, Daviess/Martin Co. Coordinator, at 812-295-2308.
