SHOALS — Brian Lee Wade, 46, of 20487 Cale Rd., was arrested by Martin County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday after dispatchers received a 3:30 p.m. call from Wade’s son about a domestic dispute.
The caller stated his father, Brian Wade, was intoxicated and making threats to harm his mother, Barbaretta Wade, and himself. He told dispatchers he believed Barbaretta was being held against her will and that Brian wasn’t letting anyone in or out of the residence.
When MCSD Sgt. Keith Keller arrived, Barbaretta told him Brian was heavily intoxicated and had grabbed her by the neck and pinned her against the wall. She also said Brian had grabbed her by the shirt and made a fist, telling her he was going to shut her up if she didn’t leave him alone. He also stated he was going to commit suicide, according to a news release.
Barbaretta told officers she didn’t know where the firearms in the residence were located. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team was contacted, and MCSD deputies set up a full perimeter while waiting for the team to arrive.
While they were waiting, Brian exited the front door with his hands in the air.
“I was observing the front door and immediately ordered him to the ground,” Keller said. “Several officers approached him, and Brian was taken into custody.”
He’s charged with criminal confinement, strangulation and battery.
“The Martin County Circuit Judge was contacted in reference to his threats of suicide,” Keller said. “She signed an emergency detention order for Brian to be treated at Good Samaritan Behavioral Unit.”
Keller was assisted at the scene by Chief Deputy Tony Dant, Deputy Luke Harmon, Indiana Conservation Officer Tony Mann, ISP Master Trooper Ken Miller and several other ISP units.
