Lucas Graber left his spot behind the plate and finished the game, allowing the home run in the fifth.
“We spotted them three runs in the first inning,” Lester said. “I hate that for Heath. He struck out the first hitter and I thought this might be his night. He was just struggling and couldn’t find it.”
Lester, as are many coaches in other sports having to compete in Sectional 63 of Class A, was philosophical after the game.
“I thought we were good enough to win this,” Lester said. “It’s unfortunate that teams like North Daviess, Loogootee, Vincennes Rivet and Barr-Reeve have to play in the same sectional and beat the tar out of each other. If you can come out of it in any sectional, you’ve done something.
“Big plays win big games and he (Woodruff) made a big play. That ball could have scored three and we have a runner at third and Addison led off the next inning with a double. There’s run number four. It was just frustrating. We had a great season (18-7).”
