---- — BICKNELL — Barr-Reeve Coach Bryan Hughes knows that in order to play big basketball games, sometimes work has to be done ahead of time. Although many experts might have predicted an easy Viking victory, North Knox (1-4) had other ideas in Bicknell on Tuesday night. It ended up being more difficult than many expected, but Barr-Reeve moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 58-40 victory.

For the second consecutive game, unforced turnovers were an issue for the Vikings, but didn’t prevent a 10-8 Barr-Reeve lead after one quarter.

North Knox kept things interesting in the second quarter as Jordan Meurer and Christopher Gramman both connected from long distance to give the Warriors a brief 22-19 lead late in the quarter.

Barr-Reeve sophomore Logan James came to the rescue for the Vikings, as he notched eight of his 11 points in the quarter as the Vikings ended the half on a quick 7-0 run to head to the locker room up 26-22.

Any further chance of a North Knox upset were quickly gone at the outset of the third quarter.

Quick buckets from Duncan Roy, Micah Bullock, and Addison Wagler allowed the Vikes to open the quarter on a 15-2 run and a 41-24 lead. The Vikings eventually stretched the lead to 20 heading to fourth quarter action.

The Vikings spread the floor in the fourth quarter, and were content to burn clock and take wide open shots on their way to a 58-40 victory.

Bullock led the Viking attack with 14 points.

He was followed by Wagler with 13, James added 11, Chris Wittmer chipped in nine, and Duncan Roy finished with seven.

The Viking junior varsity team also improved to 3-0 on the season with a 57-22 victory over the Warriors.

Both Viking teams return to action on Friday night at Shoals.

Action tips off at 6 p.m.
