---- — ELNORA — North Daviess guard Alex Wittmer struggled to find his shot in Friday’s win at Loogootee, but Saturday night he had no such struggles.
The Cougars (5-4) defeated Springs Valley (3-8) 57-35 behind 25 points from Wittmer Saturday night at the Cougar Den.
Wittmer came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as he scored 15 of the Cougars 17 first quarter points, which included three 3-pointers. The senior guard added five points points and another 3-pointer to give North Daviess a 31-12 lead at halftime.
Springs Valley outscored the Cougars 18-17 in the third quarter, but North Daviess led 48-30 through three quarters. Wittmer led all scorers with this 25 points and five 3-pointers. Kelby Byrer was the only other Cougar to reach double figures with 12 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Dusten Cook and Brady Helms added six points each. Zach Moore scored four points and pulled down eight rebounds and Austin Buehler also added four points.
North Daviess won the JV game 28-23. Waylon Lengacher led the Cougars with 10 points. Caleb Wagler and Kyle Kane had seven points apiece and Jacob Smiley had six rebounds.
