ELNORA — For the third time this postseason, North Daviess' Tailon Graber threw a complete game shutout and the Cougars' offense did just enough to secure a victory.
The Cougars (17-11) defeated Rising Sun (23-7) 1-0 in the semistate semifinals Saturday afternoon in Elnora to advance to tonight's championship game with Clay City(20-9), who defeated West Washington 5-4 in the first game.
Graber allowed just three hits and struck out two batters in seven innings. Rising Sun's Alix DeDreu made one mistake in an otherwise flawless performance. The junior allowed four hits, walked none and struck out 13 North Daviess batters in seven innings.
The difference in the game took place in just the fourth North Daviess batter of the game. Jessica Miller led off the top of the second with a triple in the gap between left and centerfield. Kristi Swartzentruber followed Miller with a sacrifice fly to in foul territory down the left field line.
The semistate championship game against Clay City will start at 7 p.m. tonight.
