Cougars powerless to stop Blackhawks

(Continued)

FRENCH LICK —

The Blackhawks 41-point first half was nine points short of the season high in points from the Aug. 24th 50-21 win against Mitchell. Springs Valley averaged an astonishing 15 yards per play in the first two

quarters. Weddle connected on all four passes he attempted for 157 yards and three touchdowns. The senior ran six times for 107 yards for two more touchdowns.

North Daviess managed only four first downs against the staunch Blackhawks defense, compared to the 15 first downs that the Cougars defense allowed. The Springs Valley offense faced a mere three third downs in the first half.

The Cougars made a switch at quarterback bringing in freshman Andrew

Medcalf, who promptly put North Daviess on the board on a 25-yard

touchdown pass to Helms to cut the deficit to 35 points. Helms, back

in a quarterback on the Cougars next drive scored his second touchdown of the night on a one-yard sneak into the end zone.

The deficit was 41-14 after Lengacher ran in the two-point conversion. Backup quarterback Isaac Brown connected with sophomore receiver Blake Robling for a touchdown to extend the lead to 48-14 with a little over seven minutes to play in regulation. The Cougars added a 65-yard

touchdown from Lengacher and a Helms sneak on the two-point conversionput the deficit at 48-22. Brown found sophomore Jacob Cook on a three-yard touchdown pass in the closing minutes for the final margin

of 54-22.
