Sorrells wins regional

WASHINGTON — Barr-Reeve senior Connor Sorrell’s hopes of winning two state championships in running are still on course following Thursday’s boys track regional at Evansville Central.

Sorrells won the 3,200 meters Thursday in a time of 9:08.34 to qualify for the state championship at Indiana University Friday. Sorrells defeated Terre Haute South¹s Jackson Bertoli to win the regional.

Sorrells won last fall’s state title in cross country at Terre Haute. A win May 31 would complete the double for the Viking who will run at Furman University next fall.

Sorrels will be joined at Bloomington by three other area athletes who finished in the top four.

Washington's Blaine Arney finished third in the high jump for Washington.

Barr-Reeve’s Damon Pruett placed fourth in the 3,200 as did Jarit Perkins who placed fourth in the 1,600.
