Saturday's Sports Briefs

Hatchets beat Cardinals

The Washington volleyball team defeated Washington Catholic in three straight games (25-10, 25-11, 25-9) Thursday night at the Hatchet House. Emily Sullender had 13 aces and Lyndsey Carrico had 6. Megan Arnold ahd 16 kills and Jordan Carr added 24 assists. Carr also had 8 digs.

Vikings defeat Cougars

ELNORA — The Barr-Reeve boys tennis team defeated North Daviess 4-1 Thursday afternoon. Braden Lawyer defeated John Cangelosi 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Cougars lone victory. Tyler Bennett beat Trevor Wikle at No. 2 singles in straight sets. Jeff Parsons came out on top of Ethan Hawk also in straight sets. At No. 1 doubles, Clay Cummings and Trevor Steiner defeated Trent Bowman and Brian Lawyer in straight sets. Zach Graber and Colten Lottes defeated Tommy Newby and Tanner Gray in three straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

Cougars fall to Miners

LINTON — The North Daviess volleyball team lost to Linton in four games (25-22, 8-25, 10-25, 21-25) Thursday night. Taylor Jeffers had 8 kills and 4 digs. Jessica Miller had 1 ace, 6 kills, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 2 digs. Chandra Bruner had 3 aces, 5 kills and 9 digs. Madison Reed had 4 kills, 9 assists and 13 digs. Nicole Woodruff added 1 kill, 3 assists and 4 digs. Lenzi Brewer registered 10 assists and 4 digs. Morgan Wadsworth had 1 ace and 6 digs. Randi pershing had 8 digs.

Cougars win on Senior Night

The Washington Catholic boys soccer team (9-5-1) defeated Mitchell 9-1 Thursday night at Rees Field on Senior Night. Blaine Fuhs had 3 goals and 2 assists. Senior Josh Fiscus had 3 goals and 1 assist. Zack Taylor added 2 goals and James Brown had 1. Senior Brody Wilson added 2 assists and Luke Fields, AJ Sellers, and Zach William all had 1 assist each. Goaltender Jon Mitchell had 3 saves.

Lions take down Paoli

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee boys tennis team defeated Paoli 4-1 Thursday afternoon for coach Rick Graves’ 300th career victory. Gabe Nolley won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

Tylan Norris won in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Paoli’s lone victory came at No. 3 singles where Wyatt Wade lost to Kyle Street in straight sets. At No. 1 doubles, Hayden Bell and Jordan Berry won in straight sets and Landon Bell and Caleb Dant did the same at No. 2 doubles.

  • Area Athletic Postponements

    All Barr-Reeve and Washington athletic events for Tuesday were postponed due to inclement weather. Loogootee track and junior varsity baseball were also postponed. North Daviess baseball, girls tennis and boys golf still will go on as planned.
