Sectional draws announced for volleyball, football

---- — Sectional draws were announced for volleyball and football over the weekend.

For the football draw, announced Sunday, Washington (0-8) will see an unfamiliar foe as the Hatchets move from their traditional Sectional 32 to Sectional 31. The Hatchets will face Brownstown Central (8-0) in the sectional on Oct. 25.

The Braves are sixth in the Class 3A AP poll and have already won the Mid-Southern Conference. Other games in the sectional include: North Harrison (4-4) at Mitchell (1-7), Brown County (5-3) at Salem (4-4), and Corydon Central (6-2) at Charlestown (5-3). The winner of the Washington/Brownstown Central game will play the winner of North Harrison/Mitchell victor.

North Daviess will see familiar foes again at the sectional as the Cougars (6-2) will host Springs Valley (1-7) on Oct. 25. Coincidentally, the Cougars will see the Blackhawks before the sectional as they meet Friday at Cougar Valley.

Other games in Sectional 48 include: Wood Memorial (0-8) at Tecumseh (7-1), Linton (8-0) at Union Dugger (1-7), and Perry Central (6-2) at North Knox (4-4). Should the Cougars defeat Springs Valley on Oct. 25, they would play the winner of Perry Central and North Knox.

Volleyball sectionals begin next week in Class A at Loogootee and Class 3A at Jasper.

The Hatchets will open sectional with the host Wildcats on Oct. 24. in the third match. The winner of the match will play the winner of Mitchell and Vincennes Lincoln in the semifinals on Oct. 26. Pike Central awaits the winner of Southridge and Heritage Hills in the other semifinal. The finals are at 7 p.m. Oct. 26. Regional is set for Oct. 29 with the winner hosting the winner of the Mount Vernon sectional. Semistate for this class is at Edgewood on Nov. 2.

The Class A Loogootee sectional begins on Oct. 24 with North Daviess taking on Washington Catholic in the first game at 6 p.m. while Vincennes Rivet and Barr-Reeve meet in the second game. The semifinals begin at 11 a.m. on Oct. 26 with the WC/ND winner playing the Rivet/B-R victor in the first semifinal. Loogootee and Shoals play in the other semifinal slated for 12:30 p.m. The final is at 7 p.m. that Saturday and the winner will move on to host the winner of the Northeast Dubois sectional on Oct. 29. Semistate play is set for Nov. 2 at Loogootee.

Barr-Reeve is ranked second in the latest Class A volleyball coaches poll. Loogootee is No. 3.
