WASHINGTON — Banquet is set Sunday at Bethel

The Washington Basketball Booster Banquet is at 5 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Church.

The banquet is for players and cheerleaders in high school.

Persons wishing to attend are asked to rsvp John Newton at 254-4668.

Hatchets blank Pioneers, 5-0

BOONVILLE - Washington blanked Boonville, 5-0, in a Big 8 Conference tennis match Thursday.

Wins in singles for Washington went to Britney Pierson (6-2, 6-4), Chelsea Brown (6-0, 6-4) and Audrey Rogers (6-1, 6-2).

Rachel Chattin-Audra Stallman won at first doubles, 6-1, 6-3, and Kayla Mercer-Megan Arnold won second doubles, 6-3, 7-5.

“All the girls seemed to play pretty well,” Washington coach Kevin Stallman said. “It was nice to see our singles players continue to improve and our doubles teams are starting to work together.” The Hatchets also won four junior varsity matches.

Amber Showalter and Rebecca Gurthrie won at singles, 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. Baylee Wildman-Miriam Ibarra won 6-4, and Arieonna Chestnut-Marlee Stoner won 6-3.

Physical exam schedule is set

Physical examinations for athletes in the Washington School Corporation will be held May 30 and July 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

All athletes, from elementary through high school must use the service. The cost is $15.

Athletes under age 18 will need to have a parent with them or they need to bring a consent form signed by a parent.

Forms are available in the high school athletic office during normal school hours.

Tennis meetings are next week

Boys in junior or senior high school wishing to play tennis this fall at Washington should attend meetings on either Monday and Wednesday at 4 p.m. for information.

The meetings are scheduled for Gate Four at the Hatchet House.

Youth tennis is set to start June

The Washington Youth Tennis Camp is June 16 through July 21.

The camp is held each Sunday for six weeks to allow students the opportunity to practice what they have learned leading up to the next camp day.

Students grades kindergarten through third will have sessions from 6 to 7 p.m; students in grades four and five are scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m., and students in grades six through nine (Futures Program) will also meet from 7 to 8 p.m.

The cost is $60 per student. The fee includes a tennis racket, t-shirt and water jug.

Flyers are to be distributed to elementary schools in Washington during physical education classes.

Any Daviess County area child is welcomed to participate, including students of Daviess County and surrounding schools.

Students may register at www.MidwestTeamTennis.com.

Registration ends May 27. Registrations must be done online..
