---- — TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute Wayne Newton advanced to Saturday’s winner bracket of the American Legion Sectional Thusday evening at Terre Haute North High School as TJ Decker tossed a perfect game in a 12-0 seven-inning win against Sullivan in the tournament’s first game
The Washington Freedom were schedued to play Clinton in the second round Friday evening. Results from that game were not available at press time, but results and a game story can be found on our website at washtimesherald.com.
If Washington defeats Clinton, the Freedom advance to the first game at noon Saturday against Terre Haute. A loss places Washington in the loser’s bracket in a 3:30 p.m. meeting Sullivan with each team playing to remain in the tournament.
The loser from Saturday’s noon game and the winner at 3:30 p.m. are scheduled to play at 8 p.m. The winner of that game advances to the first of two championship games at 1 p.m. Sunday. If the loser’s bracket team wins the first game, a second game for the tournament championship is scheduled to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Washington had not played Clinton in the regular season, but has defeated Sullivan twice this summer. Terre Haute holds wins against the Freedom.
Terre Haute gave Decker all the runs he needed with eight in the first inning. Newton added two runs in the second and sixth to complete the win.
