Loogootee gets two wins Saturday

Loogootee won two games Saturday afternoon to continue its hot start to the 2013 season.

The Lions (3-0) defeated Attica and Springs Valley at Les Page Field to keep their early season momentum going.

In the first game of the day, Loogootee defeated Attica 6-5 in a competitive game that saw the Lions trail for the first time this season.

Attica scored two runs in the first off senior pitcher Conner Wittmer, but the Lions responded with two runs of their own to tie the game, and one run apiece in the second and third innings to take a 4-2 lead.

Attica tied the game with two runs in the fifth inning, but Loogootee once again bounced back with one run scored in the fifth and sixth to take a 6-4 lead. Attica added one run in the seventh inning, but that wasn¹t enough, and the Lions prevailed 6-5.

In the second game, Loogootee had a much easier time when it defeated Springs Valley 10-0. Through three innings, the Lions held a 1-0 lead. In the middle three innings, the Loogootee offense broke out with nine runs to extend its lead to 10-0. Loogootee starter sophomore Gabe Nolley held Springs Valley in check all day.
