BLOOMFIELD — The North Daviess girls basketball has owned the final quarter this season.

The Lady Cougars (16-4, 7-1 Southwestern Indiana) defeated Eastern Greene (9-10, 6-2), 31-29, Thursday to win a share of the SWIAC championship.

Neither team could muster much offensive rhythm in the first quarter, as Eastern Green held a slim 4-2 lead. The Thunderbirds picked up their pace in the second quarter by outscoring the Cougars 11-6 to take a 15-8 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, both teams managed 10 points apiece, but Eastern Green still held a seven-point advantage, 25-18, heading into the final quarter.

The Cougars outscored the Thunderbirds 13-4 in the final eight minutes, behind six points from freshman forward Brooke Moore.

"It was not our best performance," said North Daviess coach Ron Knepp. "Again our defense stepped up, and gave us an opportunity to win at the end. This team just has the will to win."

The Cougars will travel to Montgomery Tuesday to take on Class A No. 9 Barr-Reeve (16-4) in the first round of the Class A Sectional 63.
