Hatchets win at North Knox

BICKNELL — BICKNELL - Friday night the Washington Hatchets lost the one thing they’ve been trying to lose all season - their winless season.

Washington (1-8) dominated North Knox (4-5) from the outset as the Hatchets ruined the Warriors’ Senior Night win a 28-13 win.

Hatchet coach Kelly Brashear couldn’t have been happier following the win.

“That was such a fun game to coach. And I’ll tell you what, they (North Knox) are no slouch, they are a good football team. They’re physical, they hit hard. This was just one of those nights when the kids, they just had it going,” said Brashear. “Everyone of them contributed in a positive way. We got good play from all positions. I just couldn’t be prouder of the team effort.

“And it was so nice to hear these guys out here, on both sides of the ball, talking to each other and picking each other up and playing together,” said Brashear. “It was just a blast.”

The Hatchets played by far their best 24 minutes of football this season in the first half. Though North Knox scored a late touchdown on a one-yard run by Jordan Meurer to cut the Washington lead to 21-6 at the half, the opening two quarters of the game were dominated by WHS.

Washington’s defense forced three first half Warrior turnovers, including an interception by Austin Moody and a pair of stops on fourth down. And the Hatchets capitalized as quarterback Jake Brashear led the Black and Gold on a trio of first half scoring drives.

Jaden Arvin, who topped the 1,000 yard mark in rushing yards with a 14-yard carry in the first quarter, capped a pair of those drives with touchdown runs of five and four yards in the first quarter as WHS led 14-0 after one period of play.
