As the Washington softball team prepares for next week’s sectional, it is trying to find some rhythm.
Unfortunately for the Hatchets, Saturday afternoon at the Sports Complex, they suffered another tough loss.
Ashley Elliott went the distance for the Hatchets as coach Bret Graber is still looking for the winning formula for his young team.
“We played a lot better for the first five innings against a very good Shakamak team,” Graber said. “We just didn’t make the plays when we needed to. We have improved so much this year that it is heartbreaking for us that when opportunities come we just didn’t make the plays.”
Taylor Killion led Washington with three hits in the losing effort. Despite the loss, Graber thought Elliott gave her all as she has done all year.
“What a job Ashley has done for us this year pitching,” Graber said. “Ashley Elliott has a lot of character. She loves the game and she goes out every day and gives it 100 percent. You just can’t ask more of her that what she does every day for our team.”
Washington visits Vincennes Lincoln tonight.
