LOOGOOTEE — One down, one to go.
Barr-Reeve (24-1) defeated Trinity Lutheran (16-7), 51-31 in Saturday's first regional semifinal behind Addison Wagler's game-high 18 points and 14 from Micah Bullock. The Vikings will face the winner of Northeast Dubois-Lanesville, which will get underway at approximately 12:15 p.m.
The Vikings never trailed and were in complete control from the outset. After jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first 90 seconds of the game, Trinity Lutheran answered with an 8-0 run of its own to cut the deficit to just one point with a 3-pointer apiece from Craig and Luke Stuckwisch. That would be as much resistance as Barr-Reeve would feel all day.
Four straight points from Wagler and one free throw from Chris Wittmer gave Barr-Reeve a 14-8 lead after one quarter. In the second, Barr-Reeve outscored the Cougars 15-7 to push its lead to 29-15 at halftime. The Vikings didn't commit their first turnover of the game until the 2:52 mark of the second quarter.
The Vikings opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run to push their advantage to 40-17 on two Logan James free throws. Barr-Reeve led 42-22 after three quarters and outscored Trinity Lutheran 9-7 in the final eight minutes for the 20-point victory.
James and Jon McMullen had six points apiece, Duncan Roy had six points and Wittmer added three.
