The Washington boys tennis team won the eight-team Washington Invitational Saturday at Lena Dunn Elementary School. First: singles, Evansville Central’s Jared Hamilton, second: singles, Mount Vernon’s Luke Steinhart, third: singles, Washington’s Jarrod Luttrell, first: doubles, North Posey’s Griffin Motz & Drake Davenport, and second: doubles Washington’s Jonathon Harner & Michael Ramsey.
Washington’s Lucas Miller and Corey Thompson was 2-1 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Jacob Luttrell went 3-0 at No. 3 singles. Tyler Stoll-Jake Bedwell went 2-1 at No. 1 singles and The team of John Harner-Michael Ramsey went 3-0 at No. 2 singles.
WHS places 10th
JASPER — The Washington girls golf team placed 10th at the 15-team Jasper Invitational Saturday afternoon. Washington finished with an overall score of 432. The Hatchets were led by Natlya Meinhart with a 95. Cheyenne Jones shot 102, Haven Lunsford finished with a 113 and Alayna Purcell shot a 122. The team champion was Floyd Central with a 344. The medalist was Annie Getszin of Jasper with a 70.
Hatchets defeat Loogootee
The Washington junior high tennis team (2-0) defated Loogootee 3-2 Saturday. Washington swept the singles positions with John Rook winning 8-4 and Caleb Arthur winning 8-3. Zach Gray also won in his first singles match with a score of 8-3. Trey Reed and Brysen Graber had a close match falling a few points short with a score of 7-8. Braden Kixmiller and Owen Gray lost 4-8. In other action, Eli Wilson won his first match with a score of 6-4. Drake Harman and Kaden Graber won in doubles action 6-1. Braden Kixmiller won in singles 6-0.
WC beats Northeast Dubois
Washington Catholic Middle School girls soccer team played N.E. Dubois Friday night and won 7-2. Hannah Ashby scored 4 goals and Alexis Williams, Chloe Bryant, and Maggie Burks each had a goal a piece. WC middle school girls soccer played Forest Park Saturday and lost 3-1 with our only goal coming from Maggie Burks. Our record is now 1-1.
Loogootee falls to Evansville North
LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee boys tennis team lost to Evansville North 4-1 Saturday morning. The only Lions player to come out victorious was the team of JordanBerry-Wyatt Wade at No. 1 singles. Gabe Nolley, Tylan Norris and Jayce Wagoner lost in straight sets at the three singles spots. Landon Bell-Caleb Dant lost 7-6, 7-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Cardinals win at Rockport
The Washington Catholic Cardinals girls and boys soccer teams traveled to Rockport to face the South Spencer Rebels Saturday. The Lady Cardinals defeated the Lady Rebels 4-0 led by senior captain Elizabeth Perkins two goals and one assist. Freshman Christina Smith scored two goals and Gracen Jarrett and Vibeke Salmelid had one assist each. A solid defensive performance by senior Olivia Williams and goalkeeper Sydney Dunbar five saves left the Rebels scoreless.
The boys were also led by their senior captains Brody Wilson and Josh Fiscus. Wilson scored three goals and assisted three. Fiscus two goals and assisted one. Zack Taylor had one goal and one assists both Jon Mitchell and AJ Sellers added a goal and Thomas Bradley had an assist.a solid defensive game by Brandon Strange, James Brown, Armondo Ramirez, and Bradley the Rebels were held to one shot on goal.
B-R’s Schultheis places sixth at Forest Park
Barr-Reeve Freshman, Emily Schultheis finished 6th place in varsity race time of 22:57. Junior, Cassidy Brothers finished 7th JV race with time of 26:32 at Forest Park Thursday.
