TJ Hill scored 26 points and Colton Reed added 16 as Washington Catholic defeated Shoals, 63-49, in a Blue Chip Conference game at the Bird Cage Friday.
Hill hit 10 of 13 field goal attempts in the game, as the Cardinals (2-9,1-3 Blue Chip) broke a nine-game losing streak and earned their first conference victory of the season. Hill made both of his 3-point attempts and converted four of seven free throws.
Washington Catholic led 25-22 at halftime before outscoring Shoals (2-6, 0-3), 16-11, in the third quarter. The Cardinals put the game away with a 22-16 fourth-quarter advantage.
Reed made four field goals, including a 3-pointer, but was successful seven times in 11 free throw attempts. The Cardinals made 20-42 from the field, including 5-9 from behind the arc to gain the victory. Shoals was 17-51 from the field. The JugRox converted
6-15 from behind the arc and 9-13 from the line.
Washington Catholic won the rebounding battle with 37 to 30 for Shoals. Reed paced the Cardinals with 17, 13 on the defensive end.
Jon Sherfick led Shoals with 20 points and eight rebounds. Alex Doane scored 11. Both teams were guilty of 17 turnovers. Shoals led the first quarter 14-8 before Washington Catholic rallied for the 25-22 halftime lead.
