Lady Hatchets beat Patriots in overtime

SPENCER —

Audra Lane sent the game into overtime and then hit four free throws in the extra period as Washington defeated Owen Valley, 46-44, in overtime Thursday.Lane hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining to play in regulation to send the game into overtime before converting the four free throws in the overtime period to give Washington a four-point lead with seven seconds to play in the extra period.

"Audra was clutch for us down the stretch," Washington coach Gretchen Miles said. She showed great poise and leadership." Washington (13-5) had problems solving Owen Valley's (13-4) half-court pressure at times, especially with starters Ally Hunsinger and Audra Stallman leaving the game with fouls.

"We were haunted the entire night with turnovers, foul trouble and difficulty finishing," Miles said. "We were able to hand in there tough to find a way to win in the end." Washington was able to get to the foul line in the extra period, and Kristen Lundy provided defensive and rebounding assistance off the bench.

"Kristen came off the bench and led us with some stops on the defensive end and pulled down some big boards," Miles said.

Stallman paced the Hatchets with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hunsinger scored 12, Lane 10 and Lupe Perez and Hannah Mason five each.

"It was good for us to be in this position where the game is tight and every decision is huge," Miles said. "The girls hung tough." Washington won the junior varsity game, 32-10. Carrie Lane scored 13 points and Izzy Wagoner and Jenna Johnson six each.
