Cards get Rock'd at Cage, fall to Wood

The Washington Catholic basketball team dropped to 3-8 with a loss in the Bridcage on Saturday to Rock Creek Academy, 75-32.

The Cards got over half of their scoring from sophomore AJ Sellers, who had 18 points on five three-pointers and three free throws. However, WC found themselves down 20-5 after one quarter and 41-13 at the half. The RC Lions then pushed the lead to 68-24 after three quarters, before coming away with the 75-32 final.

Also scoring for WC was Zach Taylor with six, James Brown with four and two each from Jon Mitchell and Eric Zipperle.

WC was outboarded 43-25, most noticeable on the offensive glass, as RC had a 21-6 advantage. The Cards also suffered from a 26-12 disadvantage in the turnover column.

The Cardinals also dropped a Blue Chip conference game on Friday, 57-24 at Wood Memorial.

The Cards were again led by Sellers, with 10 points, however, were never able to recover from a 16-1 start in the first quarter. Although they chipped the margin to 34-12 at the half, the Trojans again kept WC to just four points in the third, to make it 50-16.

Mitchell added six points, Ethan Wichman, Zipperle, Brown and Zach Taylor also scored. Connor Servier led Wood in scoring with 23.

WC’s next game is at North Knox on Jan. 31.
