BLOOMFIELD — It has been a tough year for the Washington Catholic girls basketball team.
The Cardinals (1-15) lost to Bloomfield (9-7) 84-28 Monday night for their seventh straight defeat.
Bloomfield jumped on Washington Catholic from the opening tip by outscoring the visitors 18-6 in the first quarter. Washington Catholic reached double digits in the second quarter with 11 points, but Bloomfield scored 24 points to increase its lead to 42-17 at halftime.
Washington Catholic was only able to manage 5-for-19 shooting in the first half, but the Cardinals did convert 6-of-7 free throws. Bloomfield shot 20-of-39 in the first half, but its best offense had yet to come. Bloomfield outscored Washington Catholic 42-11 in the second half by shooting 71 percent from the field on 20-of-28. Washington Catholic managed just 4-of-17 shooting in the game’s final 16 minutes.
Mary Anne Wichman led Washington Catholic with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Senior Elizabeth Perkins scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds and Sydney Dunbar had four points and three rebounds. Kasey Ivy added two points and seven rebounds. Washington Catholic visits Union Dugger Thursday night.
