Vikings, Wagler take down Chargers

---- — PETERSBURG — The Barr-Reeve boys basketball team continued to show why it was ranked as the No. 1 team in Class A before the season.

The Vikings (13-1) defeated Pike Central (4-8) 77-40 Tuesday night for their fourth straight game behind 20 points from junior Addison Wagler and 17 from senior Micah Bullock.

The Vikings came out firing from the opeing tip as Wagler scored eight points in the first quarter to pace Barr-Reeve to a 21-9 lead. Duncan Roy scored five points and Bullock and sophomore guard Logan James added four points apiece. Class A No. 1 Barr-Reeve continued to hit on all cylinders when Wagler scored six more points in the second quarter and Bullock added five more to give the Vikings a 15-4 advantage in the quarter and a 36-13 at halftime.

Out of halftime, the Chargers put up more of a fight, but the Barr-Reeve offens had its best quarter of the night. Pike Central scored 14 points in the third quarter — one more point than its first half total — but the Vikings scored 23. James had seven points and Bullock had six in the quarter, while Wagler scored four more points and Logan Lengacher, Chris Wittmer and Connor Swartzentruber had two points each.

In the fourth quarter, Barr-Reeve was able to get some playing time for its reserves. The Vikings outscored the Chargers 18-13 in the final eight minutes. Seth Swartzentruber led Barr-Reeve with seven points in the quarter. Ryan Knepp had three, Wagler scored his final basket of the night, Connor Swartzentruber and Lengacher had two points each to finish off the 77-40 victory.

Wagler (20 points) and Bullock (17 points) nearly equaled Pike Central's complete point total by themselves. James had 11 points, Lengacher had six, Roy had five, Wittmer added four and Knepp had three points. The Vikings host Washington Catholic (3-8) in their annual Homecoming game.
