WC loses to South Knox 51-42

WASHINGTON — South Knox opened quickly and held off Washington Catholic, 51-42, at the Bird Cage Friday in a Blue Chip Conference basketball game.

The Spartans (1-5, 1-2 Blue Chip) led 11-2 at the end of the first quarter and 24-11 at the half.

The Cardinals (1-4, 0-3) hit 25 percent from the field (4-16) in the opening half as South Knox converted 11 of 22 field goals.

Washington Catholic made 11-24 in the second half to finish15-40 for 37.5 percent. South Knox made 9-23 in the second half to finish 20-45 for 44 percent.

Colton Reed finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals.

Christian Neace scored eight and TJ Hill and Brendan Purdue scored seven each.

Cameron Engstrom paced the Spartans with 16 points. Isiah Stafford scored eight.

Washington Catholic had 19 turnovers in the game to 16 for South Knox.

The Cardinals enjoyed a 31-28 edge on the boards.
