LYNNVILLE — Class A No. 4 Northeast Dubois defeated No. 11 North Daviess, 37-25, in the opening round of the Tecumseh Invitational Tournament Saturday, but the Cougars rebounded to top Linton, 59-41, in the consolation round.

North Daviess (9-2) fell behind the Jeeps early, as Northeast Dubois outscored the Cougars, 19-10 in the first half. An 8-2 second put the Cougars in the hole after the teams played an 11-8 opening quarter with the Jeeps leading.

Nicole Dodd did most of the damage for the Jeeps in the opening half, scoring 12 points, seven in the first quarter.

Meghan Knepp scored six in the first quarter for North Daviess, but Sabra Smith got the Cougars¹ lone score with a basket in the second.

"We were able to hold Northeast Dubois to 37 points, but we were just unable to get the ball to go into the basket in the Saturday morning game," North Daviess coach Ron Knepp said.

"I thought if we could hold them under 40 and execute on the offensive end, we would be in it late and hopefully have a chance to win. The offense was just not there.² Dodd ended with 22 points for the Jeeps. Knepp scored eight and Smith six to pace North Daviess.

The offense was better for North Daviess in round two, as Knepp scored 27, Smith 12 and Larynda Keith 10 assists in the 59-41 win over Linton.

The Cougars led 33-21 at the half before stretching the lead in the second half.

Knepp scored 12 points in the second quarter to  boost North Daviess. Seven players scored overall.

"Our defensive effort was not there in the second game," Kneep said.

"Layrnda Keith was able to dish out 10 assists and our offense won the game for us."
