  • Barr-Reeve tops North Daviess 7-6 in sectional

    For the second year in a row, Barr-Reeve topped North Daviess by a run in extra innings in the baseball sectional.

    The Vikings used a suicide squeeze from sophomore Logan James to score Adam Graber in the bottom of the 11th inning to defeat the Cougars, 7-6.

    Jacob Smiley led the Cougar offense with two RBIs, while Clay Wilson, Nate Gingerich and Tommy Newby each added an RBI. James, Lucas Graber, Trevor Yoder and Jalon Graber each had an RBI for the Vikings.

    Graber earned the victory with 7 2-3 scoreless innings of relief for Barr-Reeve.

  • Rivet downs Loogootee 11-1 in sectional semis

    For the second year in a row, Vincennes Rivet has ended Loogootee's season.

    The Patriots (18-7) defeated the Lions (15-12) 11-1 in the semifinals of the Class A baseball sectional at Les Page Field. The Lions fell to the Patriots 5-4 a year ago in the sectional.

    It took six innings, but the North Daviess offense finally broke through, thanks to Taylor Swartzentruber.

    Swartzentruber's two-out RBI single helped North Daviess defeat Barr-Reeve 1-0 in the semifinal of the Class A Softball Sectional Tuesday night to move on to tonight championship game against Bloomfield, who beat Loogootee 4-0 in the first game of the night.
