Washington firefighter Mitch Drew recently announced his intention to run for the Washington City Council.

Drew, a Democrat, will run in District 2. The district is made up of city precincts six and seven.

“I have lived in Washington most of my life,” Drew said. “I have seen the city change a lot over the years and I would like the opportunity to help our city continue to grow.”

Drew has worked for the Washington Fire Department for the last 14 years and is also owner of Turfmasterz+. He is a 1985 graduate of Washington High School and attended Vincennes University.

He is also a member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles lodges, the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and the Washington Conservation Club. He has two sons, Josh and Issac. The family attends St. Simon’s Parish.

Drew said that if given the chance, he would help make a difference in the community.

“I have been a public servant for 14 years and I enjoy helping people,” Drew said. “As the District 2 Councilman, I would enjoy the opportunity to help even more.”

The District 2 seat is currently being held by Republican Gordon Wade, who is not seeking re-election.
