Published February 04, 2010 03:01 pm - Catherine “Kate” Rogers, 86, a lifelong resident of Washington, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday at her home.
Born April 17, 1923, in Washington, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Margaret (Williams) Backes.

Catherine “Kate” Rogers, 86, a lifelong resident of Washington, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday at her home.

Born April 17, 1923, in Washington, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Margaret (Williams) Backes.

She graduated from St. Simon Girl’s Academy in 1941. She, along with her late husband Bruce, owned Roger’s Red and White Grocery, where she served as the account manager. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucinda “Cindy” and Michael Kramer and Mary Lynn and John Wilson, all of Washington; one son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Molly A. Rogers of Washington; 13 grandchildren, Rebecca (Drew) Dolick, Amy (Jesse) Plant, Amanda Kramer, Emily (Brian) Wichman, Rachael (Greg) Werner, Kurt (Jennifer) Kramer, Benjamin Wilson, Ellen (Justin) Hughes, Christina Rogers, Allyson Wilson, Jennifer Rogers Taylor, Angela Rogers and Aaron Rogers; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Bruce Rogers, whom she married June 2, 1944, died Sept. 1, 2008. Her parents and one sister, Elizabeth Ann “Sis” McLemore, are also deceased.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Leo Kiesel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service at 1 p.m.
