Published May 14, 2008 04:31 pm - CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. — Jennie Kathleen “Katy” (Potts) McMahan, 93, formerly of Vincennes, passed away Sunday at her home.
Katy was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Washington to the late Luther and Lusta Mae (Davis) Potts and lived in Vincennes for most of her life.

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. — Jennie Kathleen “Katy” (Potts) McMahan, 93, formerly of Vincennes, passed away Sunday at her home.
Katy was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Washington to the late Luther and Lusta Mae (Davis) Potts and lived in Vincennes for most of her life. She was a registered nurse and a homemaker. She married Dr.Virgil Carrol “Mac” McMahan in 1939 at Wesley Chapel Church in Mitchell, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1997.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vincennes and later attended the United Methodist Church in Crawfordville, Fla. She organized the first Knox County Medical Auxiliary in 1950 and was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Society and Psi Iota Xi Sorority of Vincennes, serving as its president for two years.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary McMahan of Crawfordville, and two sons, Daniel L. (wife Mary Kay) McMahan of Brandon, Fla., and Robert D. (wife Anita) McMahan of Terre Haute. She is also survived by her sister, M. Esther Singleton of Washington; a brother, Thomas Paul Potts of Rushville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Michael C. McMahan, died in 1950; a sister, Wilma Lucille Brown, died in 2002; and a brother, Ernest Russell Potts, died in 1922.
Friends and family will gather at 11 a.m. Friday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St., Vincennes, for a celebration of Katy’s life with the Rev. John Groves officiating. Following this service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Memorial Park cemetery. The family will be available to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to either the First United Methodist Church, 411 N. Fourth St., Vincennes, IN 47591, or Big Bend Hospice, 2889 Crawfordville Road #C, Crawfordville, FL 32327.
