LAREDO, Texas — Charles Phillip Swann, 84, slipped away quietly into the arms of God in Laredo on May 13 after an extended illness.
Born on April 24, 1924, in Washington, he was the son of Jesse Ralph and Jessie (Bingham) Swann.
He was a highly decorated World War II veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, for which he earned the Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Alice Ruth Swann, who passed away in Hot Springs, Ark., on May 13, 2002; brother Joe Bingham Swann; sister Cleo Marie Swann Haium; aunts & uncles Cleo (Clarence) Swann Chattin, Joseph Nelson Swann (Eula), and Clifford Swann.
Survivors include son, Michael Swann of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter Sandra Swann of Laredo; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother Gerald Barber Swann (Jean); nephews and nieces Martha Swann (Mike) Miller, Mary Lou Swann Young, Kenneth Joseph Swann, David (Cheryl) Haium, and Diane Haium Blankenship.
Contributions may be made to Bethel Methodist Church in lieu of flowers. The family may be reached at (956) 724-4115.
