Published May 21, 2008 04:36 pm - BLOOMINGTON — John Mallett, 102, formerly of Plainville, died at 3:46 a.m. Tuesday. Born March 26, 1906, in Daviess County, he was the son of Martin and Sarah (England) Mallett.

BLOOMINGTON — John Mallett, 102, formerly of Plainville, died at 3:46 a.m. Tuesday.
Born March 26, 1906, in Daviess County, he was the son of Martin and Sarah (England) Mallett. He was raised by his grandparents, Gallatin and Sara England, after his mother’s death when he was eight months old.
A 1924 graduate of Plainville High School, he attended General Motors Institute from 1929 to 1931. He was a bookkeeper and manager at Plainville Machine Co. In 1946, he and John Sellman established the Sellman and Mallett Machine Company in Washington. He was a member of the Plainville Masonic Lodge for 80 years, having joined in 1927. From 1946 through 1969 he served on the Plainville Town Board.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Gladys (Swan) Mallett, whom he married Jan. 16, 1932; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Swan O’Neal of Hilton Head, S.C., Catherine J. and Ray Beeker of Bloomington, and Jo Ellen and Paul Chuberka of Murrieta, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Madge Mallett of Washington.
He is preceded in death by one son, Leon Mallett; two sisters, Janet and Modene Appell; and one brother, Ralph Mallett.
Funeral services will be at a later date.
Arrangements are being made through Gill Chapel.
