Published July 01, 2009 04:35 pm - Russell Charles Lemmon, 91, of Washington, died at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday at Loogootee Nursing Center.
Born Oct. 9, 1917, near Glendale in Harrison Township, Daviess County, he was the son of John C. and Lucy (Wilson) Lemmon.

Russell Charles Lemmon, 91, of Washington, died at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday at Loogootee Nursing Center.

Born Oct. 9, 1917, near Glendale in Harrison Township, Daviess County, he was the son of John C. and Lucy (Wilson) Lemmon.

He attended Glendale schools and was a World War II veteran. He was a construction superintendent for Ralph Rogers Construction Company and a 65-year member of IUOE Local 181. He helped build numerous roads in Indiana and Kentucky, including sections of I-64 and SR 37.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Canolty of Athens, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Phyllis Lemmon of Loogootee, Larry and Audrey Lemmon of Pittsboro, Teresa and Doug Lemmon of Alexandria, Va., and Russ “Rusty” and Laura Lemmon of Vero Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fern Myers of Bloomington.

His wife, Verona Mae (Schnarr) Lemmon, whom he married April 6, 1940, died July 14, 1998. Four brothers, Paul, John, Robert and Glenn, and three sisters, Florence, Helen and Rowena, are also deceased.

The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Gill Chapel, with Delbert Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Visitation is after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Barr-Reeve Scholarship Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
