LOOGOOTEE — Lucile Arvin, 99, died at 5 p.m. Thursday at Martin County Health Care and Rehab Center in Loogootee.

She was born Aug. 29, 1910, in Daviess County, the daughter of Gus and Helen (McCann) Arvin.

She was a 1929 graduate of St. John High School in Loogootee and a lifetime member St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield.

Lucile was in the first group of 10 women hired at the Crane Weapons Center on July 27, 1942. She retired as production, planning and control specialist in 1974.

Lucile was a highly respected member of both her work community and her St. Martin Catholic Church community at Whitfield of which she was lifelong member. She was a 77-year member of the Rosary Altar Society and took an active role in parish and community activities throughout her lifetime.

She was an enthusiastic vegetable gardener and provided produce, canned goods and beautiful flowers to family and friends. She was also an avid genealogist and compiled a tremendous history of the Arvin family of her lineage. She took special interest in the care and upkeep of St. Martin Cemetery.

Following retirement Lucile enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and compiling photograph albums of family and community events.

She is survived by one niece, Mary Alice and husband Jim Cox of Bloomington; two nephews, David and wife Joanna Cox of Baltimore, Md., and Robert and wife Robin Cox of Hardinsburg, Ky.; two great-nieces; and a host of cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Helen (McCann) Arvin; and two sisters; Esther Cox and Rosemary Arvin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Brocksmith Funeral Home.
