---- — Ruth Elizabeth Riester, 98, of Washington, passed away at 10:43 a.m. Wednesday at Daviess Community Hospital.
Born June 9, 1915, in Washington, she was the daughter of C. Arthur and Caroline (Riester) McCord.
She was a graduate of Washington Catholic High School and was a beautician for many years. She was a highly, active, charter member of the Daughters of Isabella where she had served as local circle regent of Local 598 and also served as state of Indiana auditor for the Daughters of Isabella.
She also was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi, Gamma Tau Chapter, and Washington American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann Newton of Wisconsin, Marilyn Eddy of Michigan City, and Jane (Kenneth) Fields of Elizabethtown, Ky.; one son, Peter (Barbara) Riester of Michigan City; three sisters, Evelyn Fox of Petersburg, Jean Graber of Charleston, S.C., and Dottie Mills of Evansville; 16 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Wilbur Riester, whom she married Nov. 28, 1942, died Feb. 21, 1994. She is also preceded in death by five sisters, Lillian McCord, Catherine McCord, Hilda Coatney, Betty Daily and Helen Cooper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. at Ed Lee Mortuary, followed by a Daughters of Isabella rosary.
