---- — ODON — John C. Reed, 99, died at 3:41 p.m. Wednesday at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 26, 1914, in Switz City, he was the son of Simon and Lessie (Hasler) Reed.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane and had worked at Odon Vault Company and Odon elementary school.
He was a past member of Odon Christian Church and a life member of Odon V.F.W. He was an avid gardener, loved fishing and hunting. But his fondest joy was to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Ockerman) Reed, whom he married May 1935 and with whom he enjoyed a celebration on their 77th wedding anniversary; a son, Mike Reed of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Flynn; a granddaughter, Penny Diane Nichols; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel, with Kenneth Hudson officiating. Burial was in Walnut Hill Cemetery, with military graveside rites by Odon V.F.W.
Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home
