Michael L. Dashnaw, 84, of Washington, passed away Friday at his residence.
Born Aug. 22, 1929, in Ogdensburg, N.Y., he was the son of Julius and Nellie (McKee) Dashnaw.
He graduated from the St. Lawrence School of Nursing in Ogdensburg and the School of Anesthesia at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Daviess Community Hospital as a nurse anesthetist. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Michigan Trail Finders, and Kiwanis Club. He volunteered for the Feed My Sheep program, St. Vincent De Paul and Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid woodworker, bicyclist, canoeist and outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Cave) Dashnaw, whom he married Dec. 29, 1956; two sons, Michael Dashnaw of Greenfield, and Tim Dashnaw of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Kathleen (Alan) Herbach of Wheaton, Ill., Carol (Michael) Pelz of Ionia, Mich.; Wendy (Carl) Rogers of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Molly Lazaric of Maui, Hawaii; one brother, Francis Joseph Dashnaw of Cape Cod, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Laura (Nick) Tenney, Colleen Pelz, Eric Herbach, Christopher Pelz, Erin Dashnaw, Danna Herbach, Ethan Dashnaw, and Matthew Lazaric; and one great-grandson, Alexander. Other family members include Tatsuya, Hiroko, Mariya, Erika and Arisa Ozaki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service at 4 p.m.
