SOUTH BEND — Paul James Walsh, 84, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Monday at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
He was born May 13, 1929, in Washington, to Edward F. and Mary (Smith) Walsh. On Sept. 21, 1970, in South Bend, he married the former Beverly A. (Orisich) Walsh who preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2001.
Mr. Walsh is survived by his daughter, Laura A. (Tyler) Burton of Granger; a son, Mark E. (Rosalie) Walsh of South Bend; four grandchildren, Maguire, Katherine, Corrigan and Elizabeth; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Karczewski of South Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Delores Holden and brother William Walsh.
Mr. Walsh moved from Washington to South Bend in 1958. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, actively serving in the Korean War and continued serving in the Naval Reserves until retiring as a member of the SeaBees in 1980. He was the owner/operator of Broadmoor Barber Shop in South Bend for 42 years. Mr. Walsh was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post No. 303
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, where a parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m.
