---- — JASPER — Verena (Hopf) Schroeder died peacefully in her sleep Saturday. She was born Oct. 8, 1925, to Edward and Catherine (Kluemper) Hopf. Verena was married to Norbert Schroeder on June 8, 1948. She spent her life as a wife and homemaker and also worked at various retail and cleaning jobs. More importantly, she dedicated herself to a life of service to her family, her community and especially Precious Blood Parish.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Catherine Hopf; her daughter, Margaret (Schroeder) Vestweber; her sisters, Loretta Burgan and her husband George, Dorothy Senninger and her husband Roman, and Sr. Mary Gabriel C.P. (Ardella); her brothers, Ambrose and his wife Dorothy Mae, Fr. Linus, Emil and Harold (Bud) Hopf.
She is survived by her husband, Norbert; her daughter, Patty Rose; and her sons, Eugene and Tom and his wife Jo Ann; her son-in-law, Jerry Vestweber; a sister, Bernie and her husband Hip; and her sisters-in-law, Cathy and Theresa Hopf; as well as nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and at Precious Blood Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Norbert and Verena Schroeder Charitable Trust for Precious Blood Parish.
