---- — BURNS CITY — Robert L. Osborn, 87, died at 2:35 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper with his family at his side.
Born Feb. 12, 1926, in Daviess County, he was the son of Orin and Fonnie (Asdell) Osborn.
He was a 1944 graduate of Elnora High School and was retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane as a transportation driver. He was also a member of the Odon Christian Church. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Washington Eastern Star, Elnora Masonic Lodge and Odon American Legion. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, farming, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Garrett) Osborn, whom he married July 26, 1952; one son, David and wife Vonda Osborn of Loogootee; one daughter, Diana and husband Andrew Gilbert of Greenville, S.C.; one brother, Ben Osborn of Elnora; four grandchildren, Davida Cartwright of Terre Haute, Nicole and husband Billy Sanders of Marshall, Ill., Jeramey Osborn and Marya Gilliland, both of Loogootee; and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Marie (Stroud) Osborn; two sisters; and one nephew.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon, with military graveside rites conducted by the Odon American Legion. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Riley Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, or the Odon Veterans Memorial.
