---- — BENTON, Ill. — Horace D. King, 88, died Wednesday at Helia Healthcare of Benton.
Mr. King was born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Robards, Ky., the son of Denzil and Velma King.
He married the former Bonnie June Day on Sept. 14, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 2013.
Horace served in the United States Army during World War II and retired as a truck driver from Rock Island Oil. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Benton, Kiwanis Club, Benton, V.F.W., Carmi, Ill., and was a former auxilliary police officer in Benton.
Surviving relatives include his two daughters, Yolanda Hill of Benton, Kim (Dennis) Followell of Benton; three grandchildren, Nathan Hill of Benton, Matthew (Davee) Followell of Benton, Allyson (Ryan) Kathalynas of West Frankfort, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Kyler Followell and Alivia Kathalynas; a brother and sister, Glen and Glenda; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Graveside services with military honors by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, Ky. Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory in Benton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church or Paralyzed Veterans of America and will be accepted at the funeral home.
