Martha Jean Smith, “Mom-mom,” 84, of Washington, went to her heavenly home at 3:48 p.m Tuesday at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
Born April 21, 1929, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Eloise (Lythgoe) Gates.
She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Hope Church. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, the Washington Library, and was a basketball fan.
She is survived by two sons, Greg (Natalie) Smith of Washington, and Robert Owen (Christi) Smith of Pontiac, Ill.; two daughters, Francine (Lex) Brashear of Washington, and Karen (Mark) Stair of Seattle, Wash.; and grandchildren Brandon Smith, Justin Smith, Connor Brashear, Elayana Brashear, Calvin Stair, Kaitlin Stair, Lauren Stair, Paul William Koester and Zach Koester.
Her husband, Francis “Frank” Smith, whom she married June 11, 1951, passed away Dec. 7, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her mother and three sisters, Pauline Traver, Carol Cable, Patricia “Patty” Smith; and one grandson, Sheldon Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Loogootee.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service at 3:30 p.m.
