WASHINGTON — Sue Ann Armes, 66, of Washington, died Monday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. Born Oct. 22, 1946, in Washington, she was the daughter of John W. and Vonlue (Himsel) Barber. A 1964 graduate of Washington High School, she obtained a business degree from Vincennes University. She was a photographer and owned two Main Street businesses, Sue Ann’s Gallery and Sue Ann’s Boutique. She was proud to have served her country as a military wife. She organized the Heart of the City and worked for the good of downtown Washington. She spent many years teaching Sunday school and was involved in children’s programs. She had an outreach program on the phone after she was too ill to leave the house. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, William R. Armes, whom she married Oct. 11, 1968; a son, Shane Justin Armes; brothers, Wilbur (Glenna) Barber, Lonnie (Judy) Barber, and Andy (Teresa) Barber; lifetime friend, Anna Lou Chapman; a grandson, Railan Haig; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Hal Barber. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gill Funeral Home, with Pastor Dean Stuckey officiating. Burial will be in New Veale Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with friends invited to share memories from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Preferred memorials are to Bethel Mall.
