SHOALS — Robert Lee Pennington, 72, died Friday at home surrounded by family. Born March 19, 1941, in Washington, he was the son of Roy Martin and Ethel (Bledsoe) Pennington. He graduated from Loogootee High School in 1959. He served six years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Dover Hill Christian Union Church. He retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane with 32 years of service. He love special Olympics and volunteered for Orange County Special Olympic events. He greatly enjoyed most sports and country and rock and roll music. He prided himself on knowledge of these subjects and was hard to stump with trivia questions about them. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Kathy” (Kidd) Pennington, whom he married Nov. 28, 1969. He was a loving dad to his children, Kristina Terry (Danny Tow) of Shoals, and Robbie Pennington of Washington; and was a great “PeePaw” to his granddaughter, Autumn Terry. He is also survived by sisters, Laverne Kiefner of Loogootee, and Norma (Hermann) Senger of Shelby Township, Mich; sister-in-law, Vicki Silvers of Springville; six nephews; three nieces; and several great-nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wilma Ledgerwood and Patricia Warren; nephews, Donnie Kiefner, Bobby Warren; and niece, Diane Kiefner. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dover Hill Christian Union Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home, Shoals, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
